MIT faculty since 1978 and author of over 170 scientific papers and holder of 31 U.S. patents, his research is applied electrochemistry supporting new technologies in metals extraction (molten oxide electrolysis) and energy storage (liquid metal battery). He is co-founder of two companies, Boston Metal and Ambri. Viewed over 2 million times, his TED talk is about inventing technology and inventing inventors. In 2012 named by Time magazine one of the 100 Most Influential People in the World.
